DAP leaders call for an end to ISA

PENANG: About 10 state DAP leaders and members took turns to carry placards here calling for the abolition of the Internal Security Act (ISA).
State DAP vice-chairman Lim Hock Seng said the day-long demonstration at the Campbell Street-Penang Road junction, was held to protest against the use of the ISA against five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) officials.
The five - P. Uthayakumar, 46; M. Manoharan, 46; V. Ganabatirau, 34; R. Kengadharan, 40; and K. Vasanthakumar, 34, – have been placed under a two-year detention order.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said policemen were deployed to keep the situation in check. No arrest was made.
