CNY do at new venue

THE state will host the Chinese New Open House celebration for the first time at Campbell Street in Penang on Jan 29 from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik said about 10,000 people were expected to attend the open house, which would be graced by Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said the state would spend RM50,000 on the event while another RM100,000 would be funded by the private sector.

“The state has also printed 20,000 leaflets on the celebration to be distributed at tourist destinations and shopping complexes,’’ he said.

Ng also said the whole area, stretching 1.2km, would be lighted up with mini red lanterns.

He said those attending the open house could park their vehicles for free at the Penang Municipal Council’s multi-storey carpark at Hutton Lane, along Penang Road and the surrounding streets.

Among the highlights of the open house are cultural and traditional performances in- cluding Chinese acrobatic and martial arts performances, lion and dragon dances, Chinese drum performances and a demonstration on Chinese calligraphy writing.
